Just wondering you seem to be against any and all businesses coming to town with Tax dollars and employment oppratunity's. if you keep this up these pieces of property on 119 will end up with more trailer parks and low income housing, In my opinion this is why Winchester is in the mess we are, Not selectman or town spending but the fact we do not have good revenue from businesses or property coming in, What do you think the Tax revenue from a trailer park with 50-100 trailers is? well with town services and lots of kids in our school its a loss. someone asked you earlier if you guys had any answers or is it only finger pointing and complaining that this site intends on doing over and over again. Impress me.....lets talk about some answers
Didn't know that we are against any and all businesses coming to town or employment opportunities. We just provide information and sometimes our personal opinions. We attempt to provide all of the facts, both sides to the story and bring to light what some town officials would rather see kept secret.
You on the other hand seem to blame all of Winchester's problems on people who speak out against injustice and corruption and put the onus squarely on citizen's who live in trailer parks as the town's main problems. So Ed, tell me, what would you propose for Winchester to make it a thriving town for all and one that surrounding towns would envy and speak highly of? How do we remedy all of these issues you speak of?
How would shutting down this blog, stifling information and going back to a cloud of secrecy like before or getting rid of the people who either prefer or can only afford to live in these parks you speak of, who by the way pay taxes and contribute, unlike some people we know, make this town a better place? Would it surprise you to see how many highly paid town employees are behind in their taxes? Don't blame everything on people who eek out a living and hurt no one doing it.
Do you think that perhaps the people you've voted into office term after term might have something to do with the fact that there is no viable employment opportunities in Winchester, that these same people pop up on all of the boards and all of the committees time and time again, make all of the decisions as to what businesses come here, how the town is run and the rules and regulations we all have to abide by? Why don't you ask them why there's no Wal-Mart, or a super market chain, or any high tech industries? Ask them why these kinds of businesses have not showed an interest to come here? How about a large motel or hotel chain for all of these tourists we keep hearing about that come here, why don't they show an interest either?
Surely it isn't the location or the conditions of our roadways and highways, lack of water or sewer, what do you think the real reasons are?

I'm one taxpayer that is in favor of the plant on 119, I'm also glad to have the informer so we get everyone's opinion. With the informer its not so easy to keep thing from the voting public.
My question is why would any taxpayer in Winchester support a foreign backed business coming in that not only will create air quality hazards for our residents, perhaps destroy forests for miles around AND drive up the cost of our fire wood, pellets, shavings and other wood, take water from the River, dump truck traffic on our mainstreets AND more importantly NOT pay much in the way of taxes due to energy credits and not paying taxes on any of the plant that is related to pollution control, etc. The only reason they are knocking on our door again is that Berlin doesn't want them now. Pay attention to what has happened in MA where bio mass appears to be close to being banned and has been voted out of Greenfield.
Someone needs to take a course in Economics 101.
A lack of new businesses in this town is not the reason our town is in a financial mess.
Read some books! You might discover the answer for yourself, instead of spouting off what you hear from your relatives.
Informer you are right. When uninformed voters continue to vote on name recognition alone instead of getting the facts and looking at past history nothing changes except our property tax rates. We're paying exhoberant salaries to unqualified people, putting up with an attitude of entitlement and indifference from our elected officials and going in a direction that not only isn't good for the town itself; but simply put lines the pockets of a few in office with personal agendas. It's too bad that last year when we had several new faces willing to come forward to turn our town around that they were ignored and not voted in. Hopefully with all of the exposure this site has provided next year's election will be different and Winchester will begin heading in a new direction. We can only hope that those new faces step forward again and that this time we all give them our support. Without change we're stuck in the same old pattern of enriching a few while others continue to lose their homes.
To the person who started this subject. Did you ever stop to think that it isn't the people who live in trailer parks that are the problem, they aren't responsible for the parks, the owners are you fool. They own the land and reap the benefits of establishing this business, not the people who live there. It's the same as having an apartment complex, but on a larger scale. Many people own their own mobiles and pay the park rent which usually includes their water and sewer. So you see, not only do they pay towards property taxes for property they don't own, they also pay for the water and sewer too. Why single out hard working tax paying people and label them as a problem? What an idiot you must be.
The only businesses we seem to attract are ones that certain people want and not businesses that are good for the whole community. If you don't know what I am talking about, take a run up route 10 to Keene. All of those noisy businesses not only ate up prime real estate that could have attracted a Walmart or Market Basket or even a small mini-mall which would have provided tax relief and many jobs; but they are all in our (non)protected Aquifer Zone. Think about it folks, just who allowed this to happen? Stop having the wool pulled over your eyes by the very same people who have been preventing real growth in our town.
Informer you are doing your job. People are thinking, asking questions and not accepting the status quo. Keep up the good work.
If I were the powers that be I would be quite concerned that change is going to happen. In fact it can't happen soon enough. Perhaps issues will be decided on facts not who you know or are related too.
To Anonymous 9:24 am - you made a very valid point. The town's mapped out aquifer is continuously ignored and a business that has the potential to be harmful is allowed there.
BP is an excellent example of how one accident can create catastrophic damage to the environment. All of the businesses along Route 10 have that very potential danger. Yet they were allowed anyway.
Was the Department of Environment Service informed about the business that went in next to the Ashuelot River? Would they really have allowed a motor cross track, race track, diesel truck shop to be placed not only next to the river - but on top of our aquifer zone.
What will our Town fathers do if an accident happens? How many people will be affected or harmed if our water supply is ruined? What will it cost our town?
Time and time again, our Conservation Commission, Planning Board & Zoning Board does not seem to be watching our backs or the environment. They appear to have a narrow mind set that does not grasp the big picture. Nor does the person who asked the original question.
Solution? First and foremost - protect your environment.
After reading this particular blogs it gave me a sigh of relief that the Winchester Citizens are finally awakening and getting the big picture that a certain few, mostly on the planning board are destroying our aquifer, our way of life and the enjoy of our properties. You do not have any idea how much money I have spent in the past 6 years fighting these SOB without any body lifting an eye brow until now. Great! Keep it up!
I have no opinion on the biomass generating plant whether it will be good of bad. All I know is, I visited a town in PA called Munsey a small town like Winchester that has a biomass plant that burns railroad ties right in the middle of Amish Farms land. I saw no dead cattle or citizens walking around with oxygen tanks strapped to their walkers. A puff of steam once in awhile maybe that came from the roof. Nothing else and they burned 15 ton an hour.
Check out the BOS minutes for 9/1. Gary Puffer is so overworked that he can't even read the meters correctly. I hope the BOS can see through his excuses.
The Keene Sentinel today, Sept10th. REGION, Governor's race, Tim Robertson,Said he would balance the budget by asking officials to "publicly justify" their jobs so the public can decide whether a position is necessary. What a good idea!

They come from an inept Town Hall that has people making bad decisions about bad money policies, about bad planning policies and who have no ability to envision the future.
Now before anyone blames anyone for espionage this is all public information that has been gotten from public records.

Wow, now attacking personally. I am human, just like anyone else, whose husband has lost jobs, etc. Do you think I like the situation and enjoy paying the 18% interest rate? I have never claimed to be any better than anyone else. There are no "special deals" or anything else going on. I am treated just like everyone else, as I should be. But I am certainly not the first official to ever owe back taxes. My situation does not mean I cannot make financial decisions for the town, it means I, like everyone else, cannot afford my taxes. Also, I did not intentionally pick 9-11 for the fireworks, it was an oversight that was too late to change and I apologize if it offended anyone. Not that I even need to explain, but I currently owe 2007 & 2008 taxes, 2009 is now in escrow and I am paying $1000.00 a month on the arrears for the other two years.

A simple question to Roberta now.
If your 2009 taxes are now in escrow as you stated in your post last year, why then is their a tax lien recorded at the Cheshire County Department of Deeds on April 21, 2010, for your 2009 taxes in the amount of $7,310.66?
Did you make the mistake in your posting or was the mistake made by the employee responsible for submitting this public information?
You sounded pretty sure back then of what you were talking about, but I just thought I’d check and see if what you said was true.
This is how you hold people accountable, you do not let them make an explanation, assume they are truthful or forth coming in their responses and you investigate and check and confirm and when something isn’t as it is supposed to be, ask the simple questions then you can make up your own mind.
Things like this are why the Town Hall, or the faces behind the Town Hall, can’t be trusted on their word. They created their own history, we didn’t do it for them. But we can hold them accountable for their words.
Maybe that should be losers and not losses after all.

Dishonest people calling the shots. Lazy incompetent people appointed by friends. An apathetic populace that just doesn't care one way or the other that refuses to get out and vote. Until people in this town start caring, nothing will ever change.
You forgot; arrogant, self serving, lying, secretive, greedy, hostile, wasteful, self promoting, delusional, big spenders. Our Selectmen are so out of touch with the citizens of this town and continue to do what's best for themselves, other phonies calling themselves department heads and their little circle of influential friends. Until this nucleus of people are removed from power our town will remain nothing more than an attraction for the worst possible businesses and contractors who know they'll be able to get around the rules by befriending this group with a few perks. Just take a good look at the past history of Winchester and connect all the dots. Same old story has it right, nothing will ever change until the voters go to the polls and remove these folks.
Don't see many folks coming forward with any ideas to make our town a better place. I do agree we need new leadership but what else can we do to get out of this hole they have put us in?

Doesn't seem that it is the people in office. Just look back and see. Anyone who got elected for any office that dared to go against the grain got pushed out or brow beaten by others until they quit. Watch someone at a Selectboard mtg that goes against the others and they end up knuckling under. The power is behind the scenes with good old boys that run the town. The need is to expose the behind the scenes actions and take it to the state. The state is on to Clean Power. Berlin doesn't want them and the only reason they are still sculking around here is behind the scenes deals with one town official and a couple of the good old boys who stand to make some money in the land deals. We don't have to let them push us around this time.
Does anyone know what went on at the planning board meeting Thursday night? I saw a notice on the town bulletin board; but can't find any information on it anywhere. Informer can you help?
