What is the Old Boy network?

Well, in Winchester it’s clear what it is.

Some years back the voters of Winchester decided to have a Historic district. This was done to try and preserve some of the town’s historical character and value.

Here’s the problem with what just happened recently in Winchester.
We’ll take one town employee who bought a piece of property at a bargain before the crash of the real estate market. Yes, this is the yellow house on Main Street. The Historic District Commission did its job correctly by saying “no” to tearing down the historic building.

By the way - after the Historic District Commission voted on this matter, a member of this board and a town official yelled at another board member (boss to both the owner of the property & the board member) for voting no on removing the house in question.

Now for the really fun part: The town zoning board of adjustments (that by the way has a very big tie to the employee who owns the property) votes to override the Historic District Commission’s decision and decides to let the owner tear down the historic house. They now say that the Historic District Commission must approve the prints before the house can be taken down. Well some of us know what that means. If they bring 2 or 3 prints to the Historic District Commission, (whatever they are), they will bring it back to the zoning board and say the Historic District won’t approve anything.  And yes, at that time, the zoning board will over ride them again.

Let’s make this matter even better - other businesses have tried to do things in the Historic District and were turned down.

That’s what makes this an Old Boy network.

Good old boy is alive and well. If this was not a town employee it would be a non- issue. Not to mention the pineywoods hwy incident or the ambulance going to North Carolina and town employees kids having legal problems that you will never hear about. I could go on and on, but I think most people get it.

If this house wasn't owned by Sharra it would already be gone......the only reason any one cares is because she owns it.

Time to get rid of the 'old boys' and girls and turn the town around. Time to send Sherm and his supporters packing after this ambulance crap and Sharra has now shown her true colors and she should be removed and that so-called town administrator is the rudest person she needs to go to.

I have told this tale to many people out of the area. I call it a tale because it is unbelievable. All my friends have used the same word to describe it, unbelievable.
For these "good 'ol boys" to tear down an historic home, no matter what condition it is in, to build a dollar store approx. 1/4 from another dollar store in our town of 4000 is just silly and they are going to get away with it. It is time for all of us to push away the keyboards, get involved and replace those in charge. It is the only way change happens.

To "Anonymous" 8:28am...NO, you are wrong...it would not "be gone"...but you are entitled to your opinion...however; I believe you are greatly outnumbered in your assumption.

Its the old double standard gone wild. One set of rules for typical town folk, culled from regulations of surrounding towns and then the entitled get to do whatever they want, damn the rules and regulations. We have seen this time and time again most recently with this ridiculous ZBA decision. Just who do they think they are kidding?

Anonymous said...

It is about time to start a demonstration "Occupy Town Hall" this month after thanksgiving. We must abolish the appointed ZBA board. We must abolish the appointed conservation commission. We must protest the ZBA's action. We must elect responsible selectmen.

Yeh you and the other five regular idiots that post on this blog can have a great old time together sitting in town hall. Why not pick up a trash bag and protest by picking up garbage along side your neighborhood road to make it look nicer around here. Or better yet, just keep on complaining and doing nothing more than that. If you actually do it, i will send you over a pizza.

This is the mentality of the supporters of the town officials we have working for us, shows me a lot. Perhaps we should start a campaign to remove all of the trash and really clean up the town.

Don't buy pizza, save your money for crying towels, the budget committee is doing a great job this year.

How do you think Dale Gray is going to justify paying the high dollar with his buddy when he can purchase asphalt a hell of a lot cheaper in town. Maybe they should ask him why he takes the town work to Porters when Ronnie's is less expensive. The selectmen are either sleeping or they don't care what Dale does.

Wonder how many private driveways will get plowed out over the weekend using town equipment and our gas dollars?

Anonymous said...

What about the driveways that get filled with snow and the mail boxes that get sideswiped? If the hwy guys don't like you it means a lot more shoveling.

Has that leach who calls himself a librarian moved out yet or is he still being protected by auntie and living off of all of us?

Anonymous said...

That guy is a joke, never there, library is never open and the place is a mess. Heard his aunt is making every effort to keep him there as he has no job and has been living off the town rent free since his wife left him. Just another example of what is wrong with this town.

Saw Margaret Sharra standing outside in the parking lot for a good 20 minutes this morning smoking, while I was inside doing some business. How many times a day does this woman take a smoke break ? Simple to estimate 5-6 times a day which means she's getting paid for an hour or two for smoking instead of working. NO wonder she's trying to get more hours to get her work done, too much time away from her desk.

She's always outside or walking around inside town hall away from her office. How she ever gets any work done is a mystery.

I am going to circulate the following town warrant articles to start with. Please sign the petition and help us clean out the town hall.

1. to see if the town will vote to hire a new town attorney to replace Bart Mayor.

2. to see if the town will vote to rescind the provisions of Chapter 36-A Winchester Conservation Commission, as previously adopted by the town.

3. to be placed on town warrants 2012, see if the town voters are in favor of electing s highway agent for a three year term.

1. Attorney Bart Mayor's law office is wasting our tax dollars by using our tax dollars against ourselves, "the citizens and tax payers of Winchester" by defending, protecting the elected officials, town employees and outside interests. It is time this stops. To show the mentality of the select board, I’ll use a statement from the lustrous Beaver Dam Selectmen Gus Ruth who stated after a planning board meeting, you don’t like our decision sue us.

2. The town of Winchester has about 1/3 of it's land in conservation use, including Pisqah Park some 8,520 acres and many other large acre lots taken off the tax roll by the conservation committee, there are plans to add even more land to the conservation. We must protect our water supplies for future use but the conservation commission board are a bunch of hypocrites. They need to be replaced, a quote for their web site,

The WCC recognizes that the areas around the Winchester drinking water supply wells are of extreme importance and has targeted these areas for consideration as a prime wetlands designation.

Then why is it that Beaver Dam Gus Ruth invited owners of two racetracks to be placed only feet from our wells? Why are these people allowed to camp, crap in the woods, pressure wash the cycles off on our conservation land (aquifer). Gus Ruth knows it is a matter of time before these well are lost to pollution. This is why he wants to buy the land on Pinney Wood to protect his friends.

Lets de-fund these Hippocrates and replace them with responsible people.

3. I think it is time to make the town highway agent answer to us the tax payers and not the selectmen.

Also;
4. to see if the town will to descend the zoning board and it's appointed member and replace them with elected member.

Selectmen Ken Gardner Tuesday night at the budget meeting tells the board Bob Davis does not belong on the budget committee because he is a person with an agenda.

From now on, no one shall run for office that has an agenda, the selectmen only wants people that agree with themselves. Cronies only shall apply!

At the budget meeting it was hard to pry Kevin Whippie lips from Dale Gray's a$$.

If you have hopes of your tax bill getting smaller next year, forget it! Thank you budget committee members when you see them....

Typical behavior from those who have sat on this board for many years. Don't want to upset any of their friends by cutting back money they waste, just stick it to the people you don't know. Who cares if someone they don't know loses their home or their kids go without a new coat or boots this winter, their friends are happy and that's all that matters. This town is full of hypocrites and outright liars and these are the people that get voted into office every year by those they continue to bow to.

To bad we all don't have an uncle Ted to bail us out when we go bankrupt.

Why do we have to get stuck with another UGLY building, just because someone is GREEDY? It was purchased at a STEAL with full knowledge of the property, and all of the rules governing it.

If Mrs. Shannon was still alive, would she have approved of this behaviour from her children? I think NOT! She wanted to see this house restored.

If you read the minutes of the ZBA meeting, you will see that they even allowed Margaret to direct them (as always) on procedure. They are to niave and uneducated enough to know their job and that listening to the applicant after the hearing was closed is illegal!

Anonymous said...

This is why we the taxpayers will end up being the ones to pay for the lawsuit that will get filed over this crap. Margaret knew full well what she was planning and now we taxpayers will end up paying for her actions. When will you other voters wake up and see what a conniving person she really is? Margaret cares only for Margaret and what she can get out of the town for herself. Too bad we can't recover all the money she has cost this town with lawsuits that were filed because of her.

Do you think they'd allow this property to be torn down if it belonged to Mr. Towne?

Do you think Dale Gray or one of his cronies hates Bob Davis enough to kick his car after a budget meeting? Yes! Someone did just that! Must be Bob Davis didn't bow down to Dale Gray and kiss Dale Gray's a$$ like Kevin Whippie and others.
