A 3% merit increase for all dept. budgets except the Police who got 5% and a 1.5% cola makes for a 4.5% raise for everyone .. disgusting! Shows how our BOS stays in office, they buy their votes each year.

Outrageous in this economy. NO, I didn't get a 4.5% raise and hardly expect one any time in the future. This town needs to seriously consider the majority of people here who will be trying to pay for this, and are financially compromised. Property taxation needs to come down, not up.

All this and a bunch of 3day work weeks, plus the come and go as you please policy, doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks Guys & Gals said...

What kind of a raise do you think the fixed income elderly will be getting this year?

Where can I sign up for a job like that? Right now, I'm dealing with life-and-death situations daily, not getting paid for overtime, getting hours cut at other times and company policy of no raises more than 2% - for any reason, I'd quit in a heartbeat to get a cushy job in town.

9:28 AM I understand hwy is looking for a new hire. The money is good, the benefits are even better, and you don't have to get to work on time. Take all the time you need for lunch and breaks, and if you see something you want beside the road, stop and pick it up, unless the policy has changed.

What did you expect? Did you expect anything else from the selectmen when you the voters allow yourselves to elect a spineless budget committee members! You the voters allowed yourselves to cut the number of committee members. You voters allowed the selectmen to stack the budget with their friends. The selectmen knows they can slide it by Brian Moser or they would wasted their time purposing it.

The towns web site usually posts the towns trick or treat hours, guess with all the 3 day work weeks they don't have time.

service/not said...

Another 3 day work week coming up for the chosen few in the town hall. They are so committed to good service that they couldn't even juggle the hours so that we could have town hall services last Wednesday morning, the day after voting. Guess service is at the convenience of the employees and not the tax payers.

Tell Me, do 0ur chosen few get 10 hours pay for Veterans day and if they do wouldn't water and sewer and the hwy dept. have an issue with that?

New truck for highway and a new pickup for water and sewer, nice to live in such a rich town. You think maybe that taxes and your water&sewer bill might go up?

So when did we vote on those appropriations? What a great town to work in, your own private vehicles and when you wreck them, after hours, on your own time, the town replaces the vehicle; not you.
Isn't it just grand to be a town employee?

With all of Winchester's high tax rates, with all of our needs for new revenue while our selectmen waste our tax dollars while sucking every dime from us the tax payers.

Then why does Winchester have the majority in the county of tax exempt properties, like land that is in trust, Gardiner Mt on Rte. 10 the Swett lot on Michigan St, Pisgah Park are all land the land grabbers take from the tax payers lock away from our use of the property taxes into conservation land where the land becomes tax exempt.
While the rest of us have to make up the lost of these revenues. under the pannier "the conservation land is preserved for future use?.

Then Why is it that Gus Ruth according to the 2013 town report has land that is tax exempt at 50 Rabbit Hollow Road 1.5 acres land value $45,000 build $73,000 total of $139,000.

This land Gus owns is it all in the name of reservation or just a special deal by our selectmen.

Three employees at water and sewer and four pickup trucks, did a couple of them die or is it another deal that Winchester is famous for? Say they wont pass inspection, sell them and the buyer gets ten more years of service.

With bad weather coming it time to put new tires on the new 4x4 police cruiser that they have been using everyday all summer. A little short sighted maybe, money doesn't grow on trees in my backyard.

enjoy your work WEEK folks said...

All you poor 6 or 7 day a week employees can sleep well knowing that the people whom you employ are working a little over 2 and 1/2 days this week. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Got my property tax bill today. Kind of gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling to get a bill for this amount and find out that we paid some of our employees 40 hours pay for around 2 1/2 days work this week.

Lazy Sunday afternoon with 2 PD Cruisers running around our little town, so get down to the town hall and pay your taxes so we can continue this excess. Must be someone needed a little OT.

About the only week day that I have off all year and I cant register my car. Guess I should move to a town that offers service for the working family.

Stealing time and burning fuel said...

The chief of police told the Keene Sentinel that there is no good old boys club in Winchester, but as the road agent is out doing his social calls this morning with the town truck, on co. time, he leaves it running, guess he isn't worried about the selectmen or getting a ticket for idling. Not only is it not legal but its using fuel that could be part of the reason that their budget is going up again this year.

No selectmen's meeting minutes posted on the town web site in over a month. Looks like 2 1/2 and 3 day work weeks are working out well. no surprise there.

Time for a change said...

The town of Winchester has a policy on how long town vehicle's can idle. Apparently it doesn't apply to the road agent when he is on town time doing personal business. Know any honest people that would like to run for a selectmen position?

Mike Towne said...

Doesn't do you any good to run for office in this town, hardly anyone cares enough to get out and vote and if your name isn't recognized by those that do, you won't get the votes needed to make a difference.

ANOTHER 3 day work week for the chosen few, if you are lucky enough to have MLK day off you can do your banking in town but, register your car, not a chance. If you are around town on Tuesday drive by the town hall or the hwy garage at 7AM and see how many employees are late to work even on a short work week like this one. You would think the selectmen or our administrator would keep an eye on things like this because its daily.

Common sense - not so common anymore said...

Winter road safety tip:
SLOW DOWN ON ICY ROADS to avoid incidents (even if you are in a police cruiser). Repair costs to come out of tax payers' pockets, I'm sure.

Was thinking the Keene Sentinel -Chief article would have been in the Informer.

There has to be some sort of a reprimand, the officer on rte 10 was speeding according to eyewitness and he almost took out a pickup truck that was headed south. The people in the truck thought they were going to get hit head on. Just imagine if that had happened, this town could be facing huge legal problems if it had involved loss of life and it could have.

I understand that two police vehicles were damaged in separate accidents last week and I'm wondering why there was nothing in the paper about this? Does this blog know anything about what happened and who the officers were?

NOT said...

I think it was just one, but don't you think its funny that it never was in the media, because the chief said everything is on the up and up in Winchester these days. Joke of the week.
