BOS Meeting Minutes 04-01-14

And the trend continues, even with a new board .. spending more than needed to ensure favoritism is alive and well in Winchester..

It Just Keeps getting better said...

Unbelievable, ask for bids and not only do you not take the low bid, which in this case does more work for less money, but you cant table it for the night and bring the bidder in for a explanation. If anyone knows Mr. Wiggin, ask him to come to a selectmen's meeting and get an explanation. It sends a message that Winchester doesn't play fair, so why bid. Joke of the week, the town clerks survey.

Same ole Same ole said...

That's always been the norm since Sherm took over, Sepe's just his puppet following in his footsteps. I don't know what's wrong with the other two, must be something in the water.

Not enough information is getting old. It has been used before and now is the norm. If you sit on the board and you have access to information then STUDY IT or don't waste the town's time sitting on a board. One meeting saying I don't have enough information but every meeting!!??? If you need to address an issue be prepared and do the homework.

I believe Mr. Wiggins pays property taxes in Winchester, guess he's not part of the friends and family package. I work two jobs to make ends meet, and this really makes me angry.

Once again perhaps we need a Director of Public Works. Someone that can do the job and make certain that equipment is fixed and not abused. We need to be telling Mr. Gray no more often. It would be nice to see town trucks stored at the town garage-not driven all over creation.

Wait a minute. Approved $434 for DVD players but denied $88 for a radio holder for the police department? Why do cruisers need DVD players? To watch episodes of "COPS"?
Also agree with Anonymous 4/16 at 3:35PM regarding the need for more information before making a decision. Using the excuse that you haven't got enough information only works once. If you've requested information and the other party is not forthcoming, then that's a HUGE clue that perhaps you've got all the information that you're going to need.
If I knew Mr. Wiggins, I'd apologize to him. Looks like his bid is the best by far, but apparently he's not one of the "chosen few".

Is this page shutdown or do people just not give a s...... anymore or just plain give up? Nothing new and no comments.

the Winchester Informer said...

The blog is not shut down, it seems though that people in town have been to preoccupied to comment on the subject matter we have posted and no one has contacted us in a some time with a subject the would like to see discussed.
The blog is averaging over 250 hits a day and we have been contacted by several persons interested in information on the site from other towns who are embroiled in battling their towns over similar issues that we have posted here about Winchester.
Add to that the several facebook and twitter pages that have recently been put up regarding the pipeline and the fight that is coming over that.
We can't force people to comment when they visit the blog.

Need a Job? said...

I see there is a notice in the Keene Sentinel for employment at Winchester hwy. The way it usually works, some one from the friends and family pool has already been picked and the add is just a formality, guess we will see.

Thank you for responding Informer. I thought people would be totally involved over the proposed pipeline but as usual if it is not in their back yard who cares I guess. As for the highway dept I guess they don't pay enough to attract qualified people is what I heard.

should be a line out the door said...

The way I see it, hwy pays a living wage, you don't have to commute, get to work on time, and you can take a little extra time for lunch and breaks. Top it off with excellent insurance and a good pension, sounds like its as good as it gets for a job with no special education. Maybe its plowing snow at time and a half that holds people back. As far as the pipeline, you are correct about, ITS NOT IN MY BACK YARD.

Perhaps people do not want to work for an incompetent supervisor. Remember that some people that apply for jobs have integrity. Who knows with the latest bidding fiasco the selectmen(people) have a bad reputation to live down.

We know that this bs is happening in town. We do nothing about it. Several people have tried to run for office to make changes and they are ridiculed. Enough- stop your bitching and get rid of the trash. We need a new school board and board of selectpeople that have our interests at heart. For example lowering the tax rate and oh by the way the first person to go in office would overhaul of the town office and eliminate would be Dale Gray. Yep, throw the bums out. I will say that I have dissed Margaret but we need her. She does everybody's dirty work and gets a bum rap. And while we are at it the administrative assistant needs to go. Margaret does her job along with hers. What the heck does she do for us(taxpayers) as she as no authority? Sorry gang suck it up and think.
The town needs to get a back bone and move on. Listen to Bob Davis about the pipeline he has the right idea.

When the pipeline comes through and devalues property and the tax rates go up ( read about towns where the pipeline is who were promised the moon) and we have an explosion and no equipment or training to fight a natural gas fire and try talking to KM who is owned by a former Enron Exec who bailed rather than go to jail. It won't matter if it is in your property or not the fact will be that Winchester will have been had.... why because
Town Hall didn't do their homework as usual. They all can be bought and KM has more money than God

So, the BOS gave the Burt Hill job to Mr. Lawrence. Those of us on the hill are still waiting for the bridge. I have heard through the grapevine that our BOS still has to wait for bids on paving and culvert work. Obviously, none of our leaders live in this part of town and have to deal with the safety issues of Burt Hill and Staddle Hill. I find it "amusing" that a washout on Staddle Hill is marked with two sticks with a beer can stuffed in the top of one. Another fine gesture from one of Winchester's citizens. Had Mr. Wiggin been given the contract we would have an open road here.

Anonymous said...

Burt hill is open, but at what cost? cant wait to vote for some new people on the select board.

Underhanded BS said...

Speaking of the Burt Hill project, now that its time to pave, the job that we could have had done for free, Sepe asked if the job had gone up for bids. You've got to be kidding Ms.Sepe, why would anyone bid on anything in this town as long as you and Chan are still selectmen? OH, good move with the budget advisory committee, wait until the chairman is absent and then have it your way.

Bidding in Winchester? said...

The town is looking for paving bids. If I was a paver I wouldn't waste my time and money. Just go to the Diner on main st and ask Chan who Sepe told him to vote for.

Any Takers? said...

Probably true, what a shame. Lets move the select board out of the Diner next year.

Whats Up? said...

Around 12:20PM today the Winchester 4x4 police cruiser was exiting a side street in Hinsdale. It may have been Police business, but knowing this town, its probably more like going home to lunch. The chief gets to do that but I don't think its ok for anyone else to use our vehicles as a commuter ride. Oh well, maybe it was police business.

Bad Policy said...

More corruption and some pissed off residents. At least 2 and maybe more property tax payers from Winchester have applied for the opening at the towns hwy garage. Don't know if the road agent didn't like them or maybe thought that they could do his job down the road. So we hire some one from out of state, when we have people in town that need work and pay into the welfare of the town. How long are we going to let this man cost this town money and jobs. The selectmen should wake up and stop the BS from someone who doesn't seem to have to answer to anyone.

Anonymous said...

Talk about a screwed up town, the way I see it, the chosen few in the town hall get 10 hours holiday pay for the 4th and hwy, water and sewer get what?

You get less than you pay for said...

They should not get paid for the holiday this year, it falls on a Saturday; not a work day and they did not work the day before or after ( Friday & Sunday )so they do not qualify under state and federal guidelines.. Of course this is the country club, better know as Winchester, where anything goes to gain support to stay in office.

sadely lacking said...

Bet half the crew plan an early exit on Thursday, that's the way it usually works. Do you know anyone who gets paid 10 hours holiday pay, I don't. Look around, we need good candidates for selectmen and possibly town clerk. The town hall is a service job and we do 3 and 4 days a week in Winchester, not good. Imagine TD Bank with those days and hours, they would be out of business real fast.

Only to reintegrate what is obvious! said...

A Mass. employee at hwy, when we have taxpayers who need work. How brain dead are our selectmen?

Anonymous said...

Just some more good ol boy cronyism in Winchester. Thank Dale for this pick.

Anonymous said...

I thought that the employees got a 4.5% raise this year. Could someone please tell me why the BOS voted them a 1.5% cost of living raise? Enough is enough some of them don't earn their pay! We really do need a new board that believes in fiscal responsibility.

No one bid on paving Scotland rd, guess they know how its works in Winchester. Thanks Theresa and Chan, will someone tell Berthiaume to WAKE UP.

Another 4-day-a-week said...

New chance for someone to make money off the taxpayers for not doing much. There's an ad in the Sentinel for a building inspector in town. Do we really need buildings inspected? They'll pass or not depending on whom you know anyway. I know that they need to advertise, but have to wonder who has already been selected in advance.

Isn't that one of Margaret's jobs that Sherm appointed her to after they demoted Leroy? Guess someone in her family needs a job.

Anonymous said...

Probably true, heck wait until her daughter comes back to town to become our new chief of police.
