A number of you have broached the subject concerning the Town's drinking water and Selectman Ruth's statements that there is possible contamination in one or two of the Town's wells, especially the one out on Route #10. For those of you with concerns and questions a call to the Town's Water Dept. or Selectman's Office can provide you with an updated report on the situation.
For those of you who would like to test your drinking water, whether it comes from the Town or your own private well, which you should do yearly, copy and paste this link into your browser's navigation window and fill out the request form for free bottles and information in regards to getting your water tested.

Your health and the health of your children should always be your top priority. The testing is well worth the cost for peace of mind and assurance that your water is safe.

As I remember, Gus was misquoted and continues to be misquoted about the wells. He never implied that they are contaminated. He was talking about the need to protect our aquafers related to the topic of easements at our recent Meet The Candidates event. He was saying that there was the POTENTIAL in the future that a well COULD BECOME contaminated, especially a well that was located on route 10 and that we need to protect out water sources in the event we need to develop more wells in the future. I inquired and our water has been tested regularly as required and reports are available. There is no need for this latest blogging to create concern for our water safety and scare people into thinking their water is contaminated. But test if you feel the need.
I do recall Gus saying that one well was possibly contaminated and possibly two at that meet the candidates day when he was talking about the aquifer zone. He was too bust talking with one of the other candidates after the meeting to approach and I darn near forgot all about it til I read this tonight. I live close by and think I'll check with someone in the morn.
Sounded to me like Gus was talking about a pollution problem, but that's OK, i think our water is probley good. What people were trying to point out was possible lack of posting the test results on the bill every year and the perceived lack of line flushing. We have always had the best water in the state and apparently some people don't trust Mr. Puffer to keep it that way.
Nice of you to cover for Gus, but it sure sounded like a they had got some bad readings to me. If you don't question you don't get answers. Funny everyone that i talked too got the same message.
What did you expect from his wife, course she is going to muddy the waters and cover for him. He most certainly did say one well was contaminated and possibly two and they were looking into it. I sat right in the front row and heard him plain as day, Irene.
Some day the voters in town will wake up and vote with their heads instead of voting for the same old group and getting the same old results; nothing changes when you don't make any changes. In the end it's all of us that pays for this.
Gus was not misquoted, Gus may have spoken out of context, but what Gus said, was quit clear. Bob Davis was clearly stating the facts about the racetrack and riders pressure washing grease and oil off their dirt bikes, contaminating the soil and the fact that they regularly seen changing oil in their bikes on town owned conservation land.
Let's see, in our protected aquifer zone, we have several race tracks, where camping is permitted and grey water from campers goes where? There are no collection facilities along the river or at any of theses tracks. Riders are allowed to power-wash leaking fluids and oil from chains and sprockets and spilt gasoline into the ground and near-by river. We have Global Truckers, a repair and re-sellers storage facility with diesel as well as gasoline powered engines being worked on and stored very close to the Ashuelot river. We also have a cement mixing plant, with piles of sand and various chemicals, such as lime, used in the process of making cement, with-in 100 yards of the river, a junk yard, several former logging sites and of course Van Dyke's mess, all sending polluted run-off into the highway drains and eventually the river. The same river that feeds our town wells. Is it any wonder why one or more has contamination issues? Really intelligent thing when allowing these types of businesses in that protected zone don't you think? How many other towns in the state allow this kind of activity in their protected aquifer zones and near their town wells?
Gus Ruth is a hypocrite. Take a look at what this nice gray fuzzy faced, plaid shirt conservative looking guy, friends of the woodland creatures. Just look as chairman of the conservation board what he is allowing on conservation land.
This past weekend with the many many campers crammed onto the small parcel of our conservation land they rent from the town, for a whooping $500.00 a year, now with the beaver dam flooding the once small pond between our water wells on route 10 and where Gus allowed his other human friends the Bosiverts racetrack owners (balance that) are allowed to use a parking lot/camping area, pressure washing bikes, dumping gray water and threw rubbish like empty oil containers into the pond so they can float across the pond to the trails on the other side. Go look for yourself. When you start paying taxes for a new water wells, maybe the rest of you will wake up and say maybe the $500.00 the racetrack pays the town in rent for the land is not worth the several million dollars for the new well. Just maybe.. and then maybe not …….because so many of the people in Winchester are brain dead.
Why did DES allow them a permit to have this facility this close to the river. Or did they?
The DES isn't involved in this matter .. yet. The track gets it's ok from the town's Selectmen and our Conservation Committee chairman; you know those people so maligned by this blog and so concerned with the environment? They surely are doing a bang up job now aren't they? maybe they'll put out some more fliers after reading this. We have some pictures they can use if they want them.
Don't worry Bob, Gus and the Police Dept. have it all under control. I'm sure the track has their blessings when it comes to dozens of people parking in a clearly marked no parking zone right in full view of them traveling up and down the highway all day long and about the oil and gas being spilled on the ground, the grease from power washing those bikes and the oil containers and soda bottles and beer cans floating in the pond are just figments of your imagination. Now as far as contaminating the water and conservation property, you just have to turn a blind eye just like our town officials do and it'll go away; right after the next big rain storm, right Gus?
Why are people still parked there racing has been over since Sunday. Is this now a camping site too? Who's picking up all of the trash littering the highway and that land? If it's town property are we paying for this cleanup?
If you go to the town website and watch the aerial slideshow - you can see just how close it is to the river.
believe that they didn't need permits for Shoreland or Alteration of Terrain permits from our State's Dept of Envirnmental Protection.
It's like the old adage, "if you do not know it , it can't hurt you"! For years town's people have gone on not wanting to know. . Not so much as turning a blind eye, it is just we do not want to know! In earnest we gave our trusts to the elected officials to be responsible to work in the best interest of the citizens because we were to busy making a living and paying taxes. Thanks to this web site we are seeing the people we entrusted to look out for the best interest of the citizens have been lying, cheating and helping themselves, their friends destroy our town for profit.
These people in power that run the town can not even allow a honest election in town without cheating at the ballot polls, play dirty tricks like tear down oppositions for change political signs.
People will have to make a choice, business as usual or clean house!
