Winchester's taxpayers Would Also Like To Know

There was a very interesting letter published in the Opinions Section of the Keene Sentinel Today and for those of you who may not subscribe to the Sentinel or who may have missed it, we thought it important that should should have the opportunity to read it. Seems we are not alone when it comes to questioning the acts of Winchester's new SAU 91.

Truth or not?

That’s a good question. When most SAUs are trying to make cutbacks, what has happened in Winchester?

Well let’s see. Ten percent increase (that’s $1 million). Some how they are still short $800,000.

Now they have sent out pink slips. Can anyone tell me what’s going on. I’d like to hear the truth if it’s out there. Somehow I just don’t think I’ll get a honest answer.

Perhaps those that are in charge got an increase in equipment and salaries (refering to the SAU)?

The budget committee was wondering the same thing last winter when the school presented the creative accounting venture. If educators don't like or want to be the butt of public criticism, then they have to learn to police themselves. The gathering financial storm in Concord and Washington wasn't exactly kept a secret. Double speak seems to be the name of the game in school administration budget tactics."The end , justifies the means" Machiavelli, from the Prince. The treatise is probably required reading for administrators.

When the former Governor of Vermont made his acceptance speech he said that the cost of education was way to high and in his opinion the people that we rely on for guidance were not being totally honest with the taxpaying public. It looks like our SAU is just following traduction and many people in Winchester think its time to change it. It looks like the SAU even coned there own teachers.

The 800,000 is suppose to be from state aid. The school district is not short $800,000 YET. They are waiting to see if the state is still going to give them that much money. The state has not finalized there budget yet so no one knows how much Winchester will get. They still might get the full amount. Who knows. I feel terrible for the teachers and support staff.

What happened to the money left over from last years school budget, who's holding onto those purse strings?
They better not be counting on getting any aid from the State, it's not going to happen. Look what they just cut out of the Community College Funds, do they really think Winchester is going to get a huge sum of State funds?
