Does anyone know who is running for office?

The easiest way way for you to get an answer to your question would be to call Jim in the Town Clerk's office and ask or drop into Town Hall and request a list of candidates. We'd suggest you do this on Thursday afternoon before they close to get an accurate listing. However, the office is open from 3pm-5pm just for filings so a complete and accurate list will not be available until Monday.

As soon as we receive the information we will post it here.

I can't speak for the Informer, but i bet if you wanted to run for any of these positions, as a reformer, you just let us know and we will get behind you. A lot of people vote that wont or cant go to the town meeting, and don't want to stand up and put a target on there back.

Just think what would have happened if a bunch of farmers in Concord Mass. hadn't stood up in unity on the Town Common to be counted against the British. It was the will of a few that changed our destiny. Oh, and they faced death for treason. I doubt anyone in Winchester is going to die if they speak out.

There is power in numbers and people have the right to demand accountability from their public officials. If they don't get it, then they make changes. Together we can make a difference and that is why they use intimidation against anyone who speaks out.

Remember the old children's verse,
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"

Send them a strong and loud message on Saturday, show them that we are tired of the same old bull and tired of being ignored. Join with us to make the changes that will make Winchester a better town for all and then get out and vote on Election day and vote for change.

How exactly is the Planning Board members going to be on the ballot? Does anyone have a clue?

Wouldn't Cliff Struthers / Will Dourdonas' position legally revert to a three year term?

Are they going to have us vote for three and the one with the least votes gets the position for two years? Very confusing!

The term is a 3 year term according to state regulations. How they think they can do things this way is beyond reasoning. When elected, the term is for 3 years, not 2 as they are attempting to do here, this is wrong and surely illegal; but that hasn't stopped officials in this town from doing things like this in the past.

Informer can you provide some insight into this for all of us?

Voting For Change said...

To all my fellow citizens;

I implore all of you who go to the polls this year to really stop and think about your choices. Year after year, myself included, we have voted into office the same old faces and suffered the consequences of our decisions with inadequate services, higher taxes and total indifference to problems brought before the town.

This is the year we all need to take a step back and choose new people to fill vacate seats and give those people, that have stepped up to the plate and are running on a platform of change a chance to make a difference in our lives and our town. Winchester has become a stagnant town, same people year after year on boards and committees doing what they damn well please and telling us what is just and important while all the while living off the sweat and equity of all of us. It is time to end this going no-where ride they have all had and send a message to those coming up for re-election next year. There are people in this town who can do a better job for all of us, let's show our support and give them a chance. Otherwise we have really nothing to look forward to but just more of the same. Is that what we really want?

What a slap in the face to those who are running for election this year and not part of the town's little group to get re-elected. The town has not put up a complete list of candidates on the town website a week after sign up concluded. So much fair a fair election process. I am glad to see people like Kim Gordon and Mike Towne, though I do not know him, step up and take part in the process. It is evident by the actions and inaction of those we have elected in the past, that the power we have given them has gone to their heads. It is clearly a time to rethink and vote for some new people who are willing to help us turn our town around.

What a great idea W.I., this gives us all a chance to meet the candidates running against the incumbents, I hope everyone running for change takes you up on your offer and that you'll do a blog on them allowing them to talk about themselves.

Why hasn't the town put the list up on it's website, what are they afraid of? Just shows what lengths they will go to keep us in the dark.
