Fire Breaks Out At Hot MIx Asphalt Plant

These videos speak for themselves. Is Winchester's or Swanzey's Fire Departments trained and equipped to handle a situation like this or the one below? We don't think so. How long will it take for Haz-Mat responders to come from Keene or Concord and what about all of the toxic fumes being released? What harm will they do to people caught out in the open or driving by on the highway?

Didn't we all hear Mr. Snedecker tell us he had never seen or heard of an asphalt plant fire or explosion the other night when testifying before the board? I specifically heard Mr. Town ask our fire chief if he and the volunteers were trained and he said no, they would need training and then this Snedecker gets up a few minutes later and says not to worry, never has been any fires. Well holy crap, if this isn't proof that we're dealing with a bunch of liars then what is? I hope someone on the board is reading this blog and informs the other members. How in hell can you ever believe anything Mitchel and his crew say now?
Can you imagine how long it would take to put one of these out? Even if all of the spill was contained what about the toxic fumes spewing from the fire, would we have to be evacuated and to where, what plan is in place?
Mitchel's plant will not be equipped with any foam fire suppressant equipment, he says it's too expensive and not required by the State. NH is so far behind the times and will look the other way to get business to come here; but at what expense? Contact our State Reps and get them involved in this fight, it's time the State got off it's ass and protected it's citizens from harmful industry like other states do. Why do you think this guy from Massachusetts is here in Winchester?
Oh come on folks............. everytime someone tries to talk to someone at the town hall stating that recently the Informer is printing good information and facts they look at you like you have two heads!!!!! But I will say if those of us who think green relates to the environment and not just $$$$$ keep hammering facts and the truth and keep growing in numbers they will have to listen or they will be sitting in a ghost town with just non tax paying folks living in low income housing, a bio mass plant abandoned by foreign money because the forests are gone and a smelly polluting asphalt plant and no tax payers because they will have all left in disgust or left because they want to breathe!!!!! They can sit and look at a polluted river and drink toxic water and wonder what the H...... happened???
And pay the lawsuits off.
Happy to see that there are folks in Swansea and MA that are supporting us Winchester folks who care and are stepping up and speaking out!!!! Keep it up
One very intelligent resident from Winchester asked the Fire Chief, "..since our current protocal for evacuation in case of an emergency at Yankee is to head to Keene, what kind of exit strategy would the Winchester Fire Department use in this case?"
"...We go through the training with Yankee every year and we would follow that proceedure..."
Idiot! So, in essence you told her to drive right through it? And clog up the one and only artery we have to Keene? Real SMART! How much are paying you to run our volunteer emergency department?
After seeing these videos I did a search to see if these were just isolated incidents or if there is more to this story and any real danger of this happening here. Well my brothers and sisters, there are 303,000 PAGES listed on the internet with 20 or more links per page documenting fires and explosions at plants and tanker truck fires from all around the country right up to yesterday. These aren't isolated incidents, these are what looks to be the norm with these types of operations. This is really some serious stuff the Informer is showing us and we all need to pay attention.
WOW - look at the size of those tanks! They looked really small on their plans. How much liquid asphalt will they be storing on top of the Aquifer?
More outrage to the senses. Until the issue of the Town government gets resolved no problems will be resolved. The Town Hall is a mess, the Police Dept is a mess. The major workings of this Town are a mess. Many questions surrounding whether the police department was broken into and whether the planning board is acting legally persists. The lawsuits are stacking up. The selectmen seem to care about nothing unless it concerns them and protects them and they continue to let warped personalities and agendas rule the roost, including their own. Time and again they have been given more than enough information to decide to have a little integrity, a little direction and a big desire to improve this town. They don't. Why? They have done nothing except to pick or pockets to pay for this nonsense, including all the unnecessary expenses and legal fees. How much more do their egos need to be fed before they totally get it this Town is a laughing stock? Do they really think that just because people are laughing that these same people don't shake their heads? Do they really think that trying to keep the covers on this Town is somehow going to protect it? It's not going to and we are the ones who will pay the price. What does it take to get people like them to hear reason and to hear the wants and needs of the people who they are supposed to represent?
How can anyone in their right minds approve such a potentially dangerous project with well documented health issues and expose parts of our town and citizens from Swanzey to the cancer causing elements from emissions and look people in the eyes saying they are just doing their jobs? I'm sure the people fighting this are frustrated that many in town don't seem to care what goes on as long as it doesn't affect them. We all need to unite, stand behind each other and support each other because next time it could be one of us being subjected to some nonsense like this that has no overall benefits and just lines the pockets of a few and the outsiders who come here because of lax regulations and corrupt town officials. Take heed people, look at what a few have brought to our attention and why and thank those who are fighting for all of us against projects like that Triple T compost crap, the Clean Power Development foreign backed power plant and now a ridiculous asphalt plant. Ask yourselves what in hell is going on here, is this the only types of business Winchester can attract or is something else going on here behind the scenes? My money is on the latter and I don't like what I see.
I don't like what I see or hear either, and do thank those that are bringing us critical and relevant information to the proposed projects in town. We all need to be informed and then act.

There is something going on behind the scenes and money has exchanged hands. The state will help but someone/group of people have to get the Attorney General involved as well as the Heads of DES.

The top video was from a fire in Louisville Kentucky the footage was shot by the WLKY TV chopper crew.
The second video, not sure; the poster did not identify the location, though he was a worker there according to the caption he provided.

The word is that Mitchel is moving ahead on this project, if that's true he must have gotten the go-ahead from someone.
According to Hitchcock, Mitchel's engineer, they already got an okay to proceed and assurances that the board will approve. He said as much Monday at the last meeting. I hope the people from Swanzey in the audience and their lawyer caught that.
You people must understand there is no help comming to your aid......You people must decide to do it alone. The state's attorney general office said in so many unspoken words stuff-it! With the corruption, thief of services from the town emplyees to the rigged election..The DES said stuff-it! With only 38% voter turn out it will be a hard fought battle.
Might as well start a referendum to change the name of our town to STINKCHESTER. Seems our leaders are hell bent on allowing a smelly asphalt plant at one end of town and a smelly power plant downtown and trucks carrying smelly asphalt everywhere else. Oh and lest we not forget the stink coming out of town hall on a daily basis on these and other decisions that affect us all.

How about one of our representatives like Molly Kelly or Dan or Bill??? They always seem to have the best interests of Winchester and the area at heart??? So does Henry. Is someone asking for their help???

Talking to any of our elected representatives would mean we expect them to actually listen and hopefully stand up for our views and concerns. That is what they were elected for, however, I think that most (not all) representatives are in a "popularity contest" rather than "public service." There is NOTHING to be gained by the PEOPLE of Winchester with either the asphalt plant OR Clean Power...a few jobs????? opposed to the health hazards listed in this blog?
Some tax dollars that will not affect the majority of Winchester residents and taxpapyers, but will only increase the amount we can pay to our inept Town Employees and add to the budgets of our bloated departments.
December 20 Meeting.....hmmm isn't that Christmas week? How many of us will be out of town or so busy that the PB will be able to say....."no one showed up!"
