THANKSGIVING DAY, 1943 BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - A PROCLAMATION
God’s help to us has been great in this year of march towards world-wide liberty. In brotherhood with warriors of other United Nations our gallant men have won victories, have freed our homes from fear, have made tyranny tremble, and have laid the foundation for freedom of life in a world which will be free.
Our forges and hearths and mills have wrought well; and our weapons have not failed. Our farmers, victory gardeners, and crop volunteers have gathered and stored a heavy harvest in the barns and bins and cellars. Our total food production for the year is the greatest in the annals of our country. For all these things we are devoutly thankful, knowing also that so great mercies exact from us the greatest measure of sacrifice and service.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, President of the United States of America, do hereby designate Thursday, November 25, 1943, as a day for expressing our thanks to God for His blessings. November having been set aside as "Food Fights for Freedom" month, it is fitting that Thanksgiving Day be made the culmination of the observance of the month by a high resolve on the part of all to produce and save food and to "share and play square" with food.
May we on Thanksgiving Day and on every day express our gratitude and zealously devote ourselves to our duties as individuals and as a nation. May each of us dedicate his utmost efforts to speeding the victory which will bring new opportunities for peace and brotherhood among men.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States of America to be affixed. DONE at the City of Washington this 11th day of November, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and forty-three, and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and sixty-eighth.
Yes, our rate dropped a dollar; however unlike you, many of our values went up contrary to the economy and housing across the country. Only in Winchester does such foolishness exist and taxes continue to rise, while bonuses are handed out to employees who don't show up for work on time, go home early and have no clue what a lunch break is. Throw in the fact that some town officials pay hardly any taxes at all and you have yourself a bigger picture of the corruption in this town. Not much to be thankful for at all.
Then of course we can put the Christmas ornaments on the lawn to show that nothing is happening in our lives. Never you mind that we can't pay our taxes and the bank is ready to foreclose.Just another make believe scenario in this town. It's too bad that the selectmen don't get it even though the rate dropped there are people that STILL CAN'T AFFORD IT!
Same scammin crap they pulled last year, raid the surplus general fund and lower the tax rate and make themselves look good. In the meantime, we're overtaxed, losin our homes and behind in our tax payments and they don't give a rats azzz. It's not hard to follow their shell game when the shells are so transparent.

I am part of a group of Winchester citizens completely opposed to dirty and hazardous businesses, like asphalt and wood burning plants wanting to come into town at the expense of our quality of life. I am concerned about preserving the rural character of Winchester. These types of development have no benefits for Winchester citizens and they create many health hazards and will cause the destruction of green space. Our Winchester is known for its precious natural resources; dramatic rocky slopes, unique wetlands and abundant wildlife. I feel there are many questions concerning these proposed projects that outweigh any benefits. The increase in traffic along existing streets and noise and air pollution would be very significant. I am also concerned that the town infrastructure cannot cope with the problems these types of businesses will demand. Furthermore, I am very discouraged with the Planning Board and Zoning Boards and feel they have been negligent in their duties to protect neighboring residents from health hazards and safety issues that will surely arise and affect the lives and livelihoods of many citizens.

Extremely Thankful that the taxes went down this year! Even though our evaluation went up, we will still be paying $120 less this year.
