Have been in the past-well done. I was in a store in Keene today and said HI to a life long senior citizen of Winchester. I asked her if she knew about the, explain the ballot, on Sunday and Monday and she said," I always vote but its a waist of time with the crew we have in charge now, we vote and then they find a way to do what they want anyway." I would say to the select board and school board, is this the legacy you want to leave?
Do you think those people really care what anyone thinks of them? They hold all the power and control the purse strings and as history has shown us they damn well do what they please and their slogan now has become "take us to court in you don't like it" These are the people that have been elected to represent the best interests of the town. Do you really think they are?
Why don't you show up and find out? In the past Brian Moser has done this in a wonderful manner and has shown no bias one way or the other, He does a great job of explaining and answering questions. It's a shame many don't come and fully understand the ramifications of just voting for the sake of voting or just going along with what someone told them was good for the community.
And what in hell has that got to do with a meeting to better understand the ballot? Talk about foolishness. Just what in hell does the annual reports have to do with this discussion?
The poster @ March 2, 2012 2:01 PM Is a prime example of whats wrong in this town and with some of the posters on this site. He/she is a very angry and ignorant person ranting and raving. most likely has a educational deficiency also. The Town report contains just about all the info you would need to know to be a informed voter, Every budget every job and every board and committee is listed with info about them. Also who is footing the bills. Take your ignorance and anger elsewhere we need everyone in town to read the report cover to cover and vote.
2:01 poster--Maybe if you get a town report and look it over, Brien will have a better chance of getting the meaning of each warrant article through your thick head. SEE YOU THERE
Poster "some people are born stupid" on March 2 sums up the issues in our town. Angry and uninformed with a voice! I hope readers know he or he is not the typical Winchester resident.
I think this information session is an excellent idea. Transparency!
I believe most people in town truly want to support the school, but just feel they can't afford it! We shall vote as we will, but no complaining about the consequences next year!
I think the 4 say work week may be OK, but with a 4 or 5 day work week I think the downstairs Clerk,Tax and water windows need to be open at least 1 late weeknight and possible saturday hours also. With 3 of them working down there this should be no problem. Most other towns do this.
Lucky it wasn't a 3 day week. As BOB said before he quit the town hall, " a 4 day week doesn't save a dime." The town hall employees are in the service industry? They sure as hell have me fooled.
The reason they gave for a FULL TIME tax collector was to be able to be open some nights and weekends, then they went to 4 days. There are a lot of town hall jobs that could be part time and that's one of them.
With the town clerk's office closed on Fridays and Saturdays, the public isn't being served properly. There is too much help available for the shortened hours to be efficient. Not like a decade ago when people who worked there were considerate of working people's schedules. Oh well, it's an elected position. A number of people would like that job.
It all starts with the Selectmen and who THEY appoint. Want change, vote for someone else and not the two bozos on the ballot. There have been several good candidates the past few years that just missed getting enough votes to get in and change things. Think about past candidates that would make a good selectman and write in their names. Cut the head of the snake (s) if you want to see things change.
Brian gave an excellent presentation tonight. Very enlightening! In case you haven't seen the ballot - VOTE "YES" for both the town and school budget(s), if you want to pay the lesser amount.
As I see it, the Shermanator and his band of bullies win. Everyone has gotten sick of no one supporting them and now no one will run for the selectman's office. They win! The Shermanator and the band now can have a free hand at doing what ever they feel is right for them.
I feel everyone can piss-up-a-rope!
I say screw them I am leaving town if that is the only people in Winchester that is qualified for office.
If you are interested in the town clerks job, and are willing to be open a couple of nights and Saturdays, or you are willing to have a part time tax collector, run for the job when it comes up, you will be a shoe in.
THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE! How is it Margaret Sharra can write a letter to the editor to promote her agenda probably on town time and not be a conflict of interest. Margaret Sharra Memorial Bridge Fund under the false premise which it feeds her ego, using it is for the handicapped, the safety, the beauty of the town and it has been the vision of many residents since 1980.
Sharra admits in her letter she is going to ram this down our throats if we vote it down or not by stating, "even though it is under-funded, the project will go forward, in stages if necessary"!
Sharra also states in her letter. This wonderful project has become mine and many other residents' passion. The only truthful statement in her letter.
I say it is a waste of tax payers dollars. and we do not need it at this time or any other time. People have safely passed over the existing bridge for 40 years. I say vote this a big no and all the other spending warrants
Winchester is like a pond, as the weather warms, scum starts to form on the surface. In this case it's always been there ruining the beauty of the pond .. There are those in town who think they have a vision of Winchester that will cover the dirt and corruption that has piled up for years. Tell them no way we're wise to their ways, we don't need to be spending money we don't and won't have for things we don't need.
Another consideration on the matter - the message she was trying to send perhaps, was that the bridge won't reach all of the way to Kulicks unless you cough up the extra money (expenses that she has incurred by not getting the project out on time) and support it.
She didn't even request that the new General Dollar or Dunkin Donuts incorporate her new sidewalk in their plans or that they should should fit the bill to put one in. Why? Less money out of our pockets and something that most companies are required to do across the country.
If we hold off, General Dollar and Dunkin Donuts or who ever builds on that corner, will probably want to help out. Why waste our money, wait for McDonald's.

I am part of a group of Winchester citizens completely opposed to dirty and hazardous businesses, like asphalt and wood burning plants wanting to come into town at the expense of our quality of life. I am concerned about preserving the rural character of Winchester. These types of development have no benefits for Winchester citizens and they create many health hazards and will cause the destruction of green space. Our Winchester is known for its precious natural resources; dramatic rocky slopes, unique wetlands and abundant wildlife. I feel there are many questions concerning these proposed projects that outweigh any benefits. The increase in traffic along existing streets and noise and air pollution would be very significant. I am also concerned that the town infrastructure cannot cope with the problems these types of businesses will demand. Furthermore, I am very discouraged with the Planning Board and Zoning Boards and feel they have been negligent in their duties to protect neighboring residents from health hazards and safety issues that will surely arise and affect the lives and livelihoods of many citizens.

Thank you to whoever is doing this. Much appreciated. We sure can use the understanding.

The Town Reports are at the town hall, pick one up for a neighbor while you are there. We need informed voters.
What do you mean town reports?
The Annual reports of the town of Winchester & Winchester school district
And what in hell has that got to do with a meeting to better understand the ballot? Talk about foolishness. Just what in hell does the annual reports have to do with this discussion?

I went to pick up a Town Report, but alas, it was friday. Just how much is a 4 day week saving the town and frustrating its residents, and others?

Those jobs must be part time, everyone comes and goes as they please, they just get PAID full time.

If this goes thru would it be like the ugly, black asphalt sidewalk that courses thru Ashuelot, and elsewhere in town? What a shame, and a sham.
