Choose a selectman who actually ran for the seat

An open letter to the Winchester Board of Selectmen:
On Wednesday, April 6, 2016, there was a vote for the town’s open selectman seat. This vote was deadlocked 2-2 for two of the proposed names.
One of the selectees did not even run during the recent election. I understand that it is an appointment and not an election, at this point; however, the majority of the townspeople believe that as long as there are qualified people among the ones who ran in the election, the appointment to the open seat should be from those who were on the ballot.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, people have very little faith in their elected officials. The candidates on the original ballot showed they had Winchester in their best interest. They wanted to participate in the election process. Choosing someone who has not been voted on removes the reason for elections.

By choosing from that list, the selectmen would restore a little bit of faith in our locally elected officials.

Anyone know what happened at the select board meeting last night, better known as the Winchester dog and pony show. Did they settle on anyone or did Roberta once again stall the process and disregard the will of the voters she promised to uphold ? Heard there were several petitions being submitted to end the madness, anyone know what they were about or if she even allowed them to be accepted?

Congratulations Mr. Williams. One has to wonder what Mr. McGrath did to upset Roberta or maybe Margaret.

Has to make you wonder what is up with this pick. The guy who got the least amount of votes out of those who ran, of all 42 out of over 800 votes cast, another ex cop, gets the nod So much for the will of the people right Roberta? All that money and time spent on ads in the paper and applicants showing up to speak for naught. Why wait over a month to choose the lowest vote getter?

Are you kidding? said...

Why did they pick the guy who got the least amount of votes what's up with that? Who is this guy, never heard of him? Only 42 people voted for him and now he's a selectman, this surely isn't right.

Just what we needed another ex cop who's probably a friend of Chan's and Sherm's, great. Very disappointed in Jack and Ben. There were more deserving candidates they should have fought for instead of settling on an unknown and you can bet that if the other two agreed on this something stinks.

Who is this guy????? All I have to go on is the little bit he said at the Meet The Candidates Night, which was not much.

Forget Chan and Sherm (well, it might be wise to still keep an eye on them), this guy is Sharra's new lapdog. He's all in favor of the speedpark and other issues fitting her agenda. How else could the guy with least number of votes and negligible time spent at meetings get appointed over candidates with better credentials?

What I've seen in this town over the years is that the same old people run everything and nothing changes for the better. So many of you who are against Mr. Williams as Selectman, are the ones who want change for the better but are too scared to make it happen!!! Give the man a chance!!! Let's see what he can do, if you don't like the job he does then vote for someone else when his seat comes open again. Some of the other candidates I wouldn't put them in charge of walking my dog, let alone be Selectman!!! I know you critics of Ray Williams don't know him or not very well, that's self-evident, so get off your soap box and go introduce yourself to him and have an intelligent conversation with him,he's quite friendly and very approachable. I have had many conversations with him. He was not a cop in this area, so the comment about who he's friends with doesn't hold water. What I can tell you is that he's nobody's lapdog for sure!!! A local cop came in 3rd place in the election, I'm quite sure it would be scary with him as a Selectman...
