When all else fails in demonizing the pipeline, resort to the Greenies talking points, the health issues. I say horse$hit to these people that fight a clean alternative fuel like natural gas to wood and oil heat. Diesel exhaust from that compressor is far less harmful then the wood and oil heated houses on Main Street Northfield.

When the pipeline goes down Main street Winchester to Keene which would heat our school and town hall. The people that habitually expresses contrary opinions to hide the truth will climb back under their rocks. Until the next issues. These are the same people that belonged to the Clam Shell Alliance who cost us millions in electric cost when they stopped the second reactor at Seabrook. Which if we had now working we wouldn't need the gas pipeline. How about shooting yourself in the foot.

You evidently haven't done any research other than to just post your own twisted opinion of what you believe. Those compressor stations besides being so noisy you can't hear yourself think, give off many mote toxic chemicals that a mere wood stove.
As for another reactor, wake up, the people that run them are the reason they get shut down .. NO MAINTENANCE, LEAKS and dangerous spent fuel rods left to deteriorate on site and pollute groundwater.
Oh, and wood stoves inside someone's residence don't ruin the natural vistas, destroy animal habitat or make a freaking sound ..
Perhaps it is you that should climb back under your rock. Frankly rich or whatever your real name is, most of us are tired of reading your holier than thou negative attitude postings.

Hope to help set the facts straight......The picture used the Northfield Trinitarian Congregational Church hand out is much misleading and fear mongering . Doing a Google Search the compressor is probably a old relic of a methane compressor operating on diesel fuel and not a natural gas compressor. Natural gas compressors are run by bi-grade natural gas very quite, clean and doesn’t require a large 8 inch exhaust pipe and is totally enclose in a building. Here we go again with the old reliable traditional fear mongering. Oh! The health consequences it will cause, that has no scientist or EPA bases just thrown out there expressing someone’s view of sparking fear who wants to believe that’s a general truth.

Well, Linder, I totally disagree with your opinion on this and here is why:

COMPRESSOR STATION HAZARDS

The possibilities for health, safety or environmental harm resulting from natural gas compressor stations are many and serious.

Some of these include:explosions, fires, leaks and spills..... plus fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), as well as other potential exposure threats, such as radon 222 and lead.

EMISSIONS

While all of these hazards have been well documented nationwide the most prevalent by far, is the intentional (routine) “blow-downs”. Accidental releases of VOCs and NOx also occur.
But all possible threats need to be considered when allowing compressor stations to operate .... especially in close proximity to: Homes, Schools, Businesses, Playgrounds, Water Resources and Farms

The types of VOCs and NOx commonly emitted include:Formaldehyde, benzene, toluene,
ethyl benzene,xylene,hydrogen disulfide,carbon monoxide(CO),carbon dioxide (CO2),
sulfur dioxide (SO2),methane (CH4),and other compounds or elements that are toxic, carcinogenic or neurotoxic, and which are prone to causing major adverse health effects in humans and animals.

NOISE

Compressor stations are loud. “Blow-downs” can last from 20 minutes to 2-3 hours, from 12 to 40 times a year

The noise is comparable to a commercial jet taking off. They often occur in the middle of the night.

The sound of regular compressor station operation has been compared to four diesel
locomotive engines running 24/7.

Residents as far as a mile away can hear the racket.

This humming can cause hearing impairment and cardiovascular problems.

This information comes from a documented study done by, Mina Hamilton’s research in Madison County,NY a Research Associate at Radioactive Waste Management Associates.

SAFETY

From Mina Hamilton’s research for NY State

Since 2011, there have been at last count, 11 accidents - explosions and fires
at compressor stations in the following towns
Lathrop, PA,
Brooklyn Township, PA,
Montrose, PA,
Branchville, NJ
Langton, OK
Clinton, AK
Windsor, NY,
Pinedale, WY,
Nine Mile Canyon, UT
Marengo County, AL,
Oaktown, IN
and others....

KINDER MORGAN PIPELINE SAFETY VIOLATIONS:

In 2009, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)
cited Kinder Morgan for violating safety standards regarding the distance between a natural gas pipeline and a “high consequence area” such as a school or hospital; the pipeline was too close for safe operation in case of a leak.

In 2011, PHMSA cited Kinder Morgan for these safety violations:

Failing to test pipeline safety devices,
Failing to maintain proper firefighting equipment,
Failing to inspect its pipelines as required,
and Failing to adequately monitor pipes’ corrosion levels.

In 2013, the headline “Wall Street Worries About Kinder Morgan’s Safety Record "pipeline operator slashes and defers maintenance spending -- was a concern to anyone who lived or worked near a Kinder Morgan pipeline.
The Wall Street Journal asked, “Is Kinder Morgan Scrimping on its Pipelines?”
Deferred maintenance may account for the high number of Kinder Morgan pipeline accidents in the last decade

Accidents

In the U.S. since 2003, Kinder Morgan and its subsidiaries' pipelines have been responsible for at least 180 spills, evacuations, explosions, fires, and fatalities in 24 states.-PHMSA

Pipeline Integrity and Releases from Kinder Morgan’s SEC 10-K filing

“From time to time, despite our best efforts, our pipelines experience leaks and ruptures.
These leaks and ruptures may cause explosions, fire, and damage to the environment, damage to property and/or personal injury or death

I don't know about any of you living in the areas where they plan on building this pipeline; but I would be very concerned and worried about all of these adverse affects on health and especially
the potential for a catastrophic accident that may result in deaths ..

You probably will not post this. rich said...

To Mr. Winchester informer. Holy Alternate Universe! Batman!! WTF do you get that information. Anyone can copy and paste crap from any left wing libtard crap written by someone living in his mother's cellar. If all those health issues were true this pipeline would never break ground. Good luck Lib-tards sure has been fun, you're a gulible buncha idjits when it comes to believing unsubstantiated facts . Try posting that.....

the Winchester Informer said...

Well rich, as you can see I did post your little childish rant. I'm taking a wild stab here that you haven't read anything in regards to compressor stations and DOCUMENTED health risks associated with them being in close proximity to people and animals. As for your claims that all of the information posted above and online at other sites is unsubstantiated, why don't you read this article that was prepared by Curtis Nordgaard, MD Msc Resident Pediatrician,Boston Children's Hospital / Boston Medical Center and then tell us all how this is all a bunch of liberal baloney.

https://content.sierraclub.org/grassrootsnetwork/team-news/2015/08/what-health-conditions-are-associated-compressor-station-emissions

..and rich, just think, when it comes to idiots, Winchester's got more than its fair share. If idiots were energy, it would be a source that would never run out.

Thank you for posting facts and references, Winchester Informer. I agree with your information and sources wholeheartedly. I would like to point out one thing when it comes to folks like Linder and rich: You can lead a man to knowledge, but you can't make him think.

This is what "blow down" sounds like and the noise from one "small" compressor about 1 mile from this home. These companies put 3 or more, up to 5-6 compressors at a station depending on size of pipeline and volume of gas that needs to be moved. makes you all warm and fuzzy inside to know that the peace and tranquility that is the New Hampshire country side will soon sound like this in several towns.

and for those of you who say the above video doesn't tell the whole story, here's another that surely does

Talk about misleading crap. WHY don't you go back under the rock you climbed out from, rich, where's your facts to back up your false claims? Bet you're one of these plants to come on this bog and spout all this nonsense.

I f'n hate people who can not see or allow both sides of an issue! Especially lying libtards like "real tired of rich"! I've had it with people that dumb down the blog to prove only their point of view is except-able! No more pipeline blogs or Keene Sentinel Letters to the Editor, I'm going to do some fall bass fishing and hoping that while I'm out on the water an asteroid hits your house. Good luck with your Halloween freak show and you'll be the ones Boo Hoo-ing as your electric light bill goes higher and higher. You can not fix stupid!

Good luck with your fishing, rich, we won't miss your comments.
