Am I reading these minutes correctly? There seems to be something really fishy going on here. "The Chairman stated there has been an open seat on the board for a couple of months and the board has advertised TWICE to fill the vacancy. EIGHT QUALIFIED individuals submitted applications." She touts a Mr. Doherty, who did not run for the position, but has gone to several meetings as someone she feels is more qualified than people who took the time to run and get votes by us. At the last meeting, she spoke out agianst a fellow; Robert Leustek, who not only ran for the position and got many votes; but also attended nearly all of the board meetings this past year and commented on a number of topics. Reading the past minutes will verify this; however no mention of a Mr. Doherty. This Leustek fellow also went through the process of filling out an application and was nominated by two other board members at that prior meeting. She stated in her opinion that in her eyes he was not qualified enough. Yet now she touts this Doherty guy because he attended a few meetings, so I am wondering is that how you qualify for this board? Go sit in the audience next to the Land Use Administrator and poof, you are suddenly select board material? Now you have another vote getter, Richard Pratt, who came in 3rd on the ballot being denied again in favor of Mr. Doherty. There is a very strong odor in the air regarding the goings on here madame chairman, something underhanded is afoot.
Ya that guy is one of Sharra's pets and is on several other boards and the conservation committee too. He votes as he is told by you know who, nothing but a puppet to ensure certain people get what they want. Any one of the candidates that ran or any one that took the time to fill out an interest form would be better qualified than him.
9:24 AM, couldn't agree more, don't understand how Roberta and Herbert can say they represent the voters of our town. Guess Roberta's statement in the Sentinel a few weeks back stating that she ALWAYS goes with the voters, even if she disagrees, was a lie.
Just want to clear up a misconception regarding Mr. Doherty. He is a member of the Planning Board and Zoning Board and is the Planing Board representative on the Historical District Commission; however he is not a member of the Conservation Committee. Another in a long list of people who hold multiple positions in our town government. This despite the fact that many people in town have shown an interest to get involved by filling out volunteer interest forms and are just as qualified as anyone else to sit on committees and boards. However, those people constantly get overlooked so that a few insiders get placed in strategic positions to keep the status quo of those self serving individuals that you read about time and time again that drag this town down and through the mud in order to enrich themselves.
Here's hoping that Jack and Ben stick to their principles. We are very lucky to have these two on the board. Now, it would be wonderful if someone would start a petition to remove Roberta. I would be more than happy to sign. Remember that she learned from the best-John Stetser. The question of the day "what does she have on Chan to make him follow her lead or is Margaret pulling the strings?" Think about that people.
For the same reasons they don't vote. Expect someone else to do things for them. That's why we have a town that is divided and though some progress has been made as there are now two fiscally responsible members on the Board of Selectmen, the board still lacks proper leadership.
You are absolutely correct there for sure. So many people have challenged one board or another and they definitely have paid a price. Or as you say tried to get a Town position and not even been considered. The Good Old Boy crew over the years and today are a spiteful bunch.

I am part of a group of Winchester citizens completely opposed to dirty and hazardous businesses, like asphalt and wood burning plants wanting to come into town at the expense of our quality of life. I am concerned about preserving the rural character of Winchester. These types of development have no benefits for Winchester citizens and they create many health hazards and will cause the destruction of green space. Our Winchester is known for its precious natural resources; dramatic rocky slopes, unique wetlands and abundant wildlife. I feel there are many questions concerning these proposed projects that outweigh any benefits. The increase in traffic along existing streets and noise and air pollution would be very significant. I am also concerned that the town infrastructure cannot cope with the problems these types of businesses will demand. Furthermore, I am very discouraged with the Planning Board and Zoning Boards and feel they have been negligent in their duties to protect neighboring residents from health hazards and safety issues that will surely arise and affect the lives and livelihoods of many citizens.

Shouldn't beat a dead horse, but this is the reason selectmen Berthiaume was talked into postponing his resignation date.

Just thinking why do the posters here not go to the BOS meetings and ask these questions and confront these people????

If you want to piss off the people in power, you better not need anything from them at a later date.

How many times does it say "motion passed 4-0"?
So much for change with new input.
